Common Ant Attractants in North Texas

Ants are the number one pest problem in the United States, and like everyone else throughout the country, we have to deal with these insects too. Just about every homeowner has experienced an ant problem at one point or another.

Description

There are a variety of different ant species that prove problematic for homeowners, but three of the most common are red imported fire ants, odorous house ants, and carpenter ants.

  • Red Imported Fire Ants: These ants earned their name from their color and their propensity to inflict painful bites and stings to those who threaten their nest.
  • Odorous house ants: These ants earned their name from the rotten smell they exude when crushed. They are brown or black in color.
  • Carpenter ants: These ants earned their name from their nesting habits. They chew tunnels throughout wood to build galleries. They do not, however, eat the wood.

Problem

Ants in your home are not only annoying, but they can cause sanitation issues if their population gets out of hand. These insects make their way indoors in search of food, water, and shelter. Once inside, they will encourage others to follow suit leaving you with an out-of-control ant problem in no time.

Solution

To keep ants away, it's important to exercise some preventative measures. Fortunately, these methods of ant defense will also protect your home from other unwanted pests.

  • Reduce moisture in the home by eliminating standing water, checking for leaking or sweating pipes, or installing a dehumidifier in moisture-rich areas.
  • Keep foliage around the house cut back from the roofline to prevent harborage areas.
  • Look for cracks or other small entry points in the foundation.
  • Wipe off countertops after eating and clean up leftover food.
  • Don’t leave pet food out. Instead, remove it after your pet finishes eating.
  • Store firewood away from the foundation of your home.

Though you may do everything you can to prevent an ant problem, you still may find yourself facing an infestation.

If you’re dealing with ants, reach out to the experts at Adams Exterminating Company today. We will come to your home, inspect your property, and come up with a comprehensive and affordable ant control plan. Reach out to us today to learn more!

Signs That Termites Are a Problem in Your Pilot Point Home

Every homeowner dreads the idea of a termite infestation. These little pests will chew away at wood and, over time, destroy the structure of your home and cost you thousands of dollars in repairs.

Description

Here in North Texas, if you have a termite problem, you’re most likely dealing with subterranean termites. These wood-eating insects are creamy-white to dark brown or black in color and are about 1/8 inch long, though some are larger than others. They exist in a caste system with reproductives, soldiers, and workers. Though they are visible to the naked eye, it is unlikely that you will see them unless you happen to witness them swarm during the warmer spring or summer months.

Problem

These termites are known as silent destroyers. You likely will not realize you have a termite problem until it’s well underway. If you look carefully, you may notice the following signs:

  • Mud tubes: Termites create mud tunnels on the exterior of the home to protect themselves from the sun as they travel between their nest and their food source.
  • Hollow-sounding wood: Over time, termites will eat away at wooden structures.
  • Frass: Termites leave behind small piles of feces.
  • Discarded wings: during the warmer months, termites in a well-established nest will swarm and leave behind their discarded wings.

Solution

If you notice you have a termite problem, it’s imperative that you call a professional right away. Our experts at Adams Exterminating Company have dealt with termites for over seventy years and we know how to get the job done. We use the proven Sentricon® System with Always Active™ to bait and control a termite problem. Though we can help you with an existing termite problem, it’s best to be proactive and implement a control plan before termites make their way into your home. Reach out to us today to learn more about our termite control options.

How to Safely Eliminate a Rodent Problem on Your Pilot Point Property

Whether you own a home or business, having a rodent infestation is a big problem. Mice or rats come inside in search of food, water, or shelter. Once they find a space and nourishment, they will make themselves right at home, breeding quickly to make a small rodent problem a full-blown infestation in no time.

Description

Here in North Texas, we have problems with three common rodent species: the house mouse, the Norway rat, and the roof rat.

The house mouse is a small rodent species that have bodies that grow to 3 ¾ inches long. Their tails are as long as or even a bit longer than their bodies. They have brown fur with lighter colored underbellies.

The Norway rat is a larger rodent species measuring up to 9 ½ inches long with a tail that’s slightly longer than its body. It has brown and black fur with a white or grey belly.

The roof rat reaches 8 inches in length with a tail that’s equal to or even longer than its body. It has brown and black fur and a lighter belly.

Problem

Rodents cause serious problems for home and business owners. Once they get inside, they will breed quickly and chew through everything to file down their ever-growing teeth including insulation, electrical wiring, cardboard, and wood. Furthermore, they will defecate everywhere contaminating surfaces and creating health hazards.

Solution

You may think that DIY methods such as traps and baiting may be a solution to your problem, and though this may kill some rodents, it will not eliminate all of them. To effectively deal with a rodent problem, you must find and seal entry points, eliminate harborage areas, eliminate food sources, and get rid of every last rodent. In the end, it’s best to trust the professionals.

Our expert pest control technicians will come into your home or business, inspect your property, and come up with a comprehensive plan for rodent removal and control. Reach out to us today to learn more about our rodent control options.

Our FAQ

Have questions? We are here to help. Still have questions or can't find the answer you need? Give us a call at 940-239-9786 today!

  • How long do I have to stay out of my home or property after treatment is performed?
In situations where you have to be out of the property during and after treatment (flea treatment, roach clean-out service, or for health reasons, etc.), we recommend that you stay away until all products have completely dried. This is usually approximately two to four hours depending on conditions, after which time it is completely safe to re-enter the property.
  • Are the products/chemicals you use safe?
All of the products that we use have undergone extensive testing and have been approved for use by the EPA. Instead of using generic products, we believe in purchasing the best available chemicals that have been manufactured by well-known companies such as Bayer, BASF, and Dow. Additionally, all of our service programs are designed to be effective, safe, and environmentally responsible and all of the products we use are chosen to that end. When used properly by a licensed professional, they pose practically no risk to our customers or their children or pets.
  • Do you offer pest control to businesses?
Yes, we offer both residential and commercial pest control. We will work with the needs of your business to ensure that pests are not a problem. Furthermore, we understand the State of Texas’s Health and Safety Codes when it comes to pesticide use and pest control.
  • What are the steps to take prior to receiving flea treatment?
Please review our flea treatment information sheet found here.
