Things Frisco Homeowners Should Know About American Cockroaches
Whether you call them water bugs, palmetto bugs, or Bombay canaries, American cockroaches are common pests and the largest type of roaches in the world. Despite the name, these pests are not actually native to North America. They were first thought to have been brought over on ships from Africa in the early 1600s. American cockroaches have nonetheless become some of the most formidable and pervasive pests to have to deal with in the United States.
American Cockroach Traits
Knowing what they look like and why they are such nuisances are important in solving any pest problem. American cockroaches are notoriously fast, with legs that can propel them much faster than a typical insect. Some have been recorded at speeds of nearly 4 mph, which is faster than the average human walks, even with our much longer legs.
American cockroaches can flatten their bodies, allowing them to squeeze into spaces that are much smaller than their normal size. This makes them deft home invaders and makes the job of preventing them from getting in even harder. Some other American cockroach traits are:
Size: They are the largest variety of cockroaches and can typically grow to over an inch in length, with wings that extend beyond the ends of their bodies.
Color: American cockroaches are typically brown or reddish in color, with golden hairs or bristles all over their bodies. They are distinguishable from other varieties by the yellow “figure 8” shape right on top of their heads.
Shape: Cockroaches are typically ovular, with six legs and long antennae that stick out of the tops of their heads.

-
Do you offer termite control?
Yes, both our Home Guardian and Home Guardian Plus plans offer termite control using the proven Sentricon® System with Always Active™ along with a termite service warranty.
-
Do you offer any organic/green/low toxic treatments?
We do offer “green” treatments because we understand that though the synthetic pesticides that we typically use are quite safe, some people for various valid reasons prefer a green approach to pest control. In addition to employing completely non-chemical measures such as structural and mechanical alterations (weep-hole exclusions, recommendations on door sweep replacement etc.) and glue traps or other monitoring devices, we have a number of natural and botanical insecticides that we can use to treat your home or business.
We commonly use natural products such as boric acid, diatomaceous earth, and a number of different botanical products (pyrethrum, rosemary oil, cedar oil, etc.). These products can be very effective when used properly. One downside is that they usually don't last as long as synthetic pesticides, so we generally recommend a more frequent treatment cycle, such as monthly, when using these products. Just tell the person you speak with on the phone or the technician who services your property about your preference and we will be happy to accommodate you.

If your company puts out rodent poison at my house, will a rat die inside?Yes, this is a possibility. Ideally, we prefer to use traps on the inside and in the attic, and then place rodent poison in protected stations on the exterior (which could reduce the likelihood of having a rodent die inside). However, anytime a rodenticide is used, there is always a threat that a rat or mouse could die on the inside. If the dead rodent can be located and removed, this will fix the smell. Otherwise, we sell odor control products to help with unpleasant smells should this unfortunately occur.

Are the products/chemicals you use safe? All of the products that we use have undergone extensive testing and have been approved for use by the EPA. Instead of using generic products, we believe in purchasing the best available chemicals that have been manufactured by well-known companies such as Bayer, BASF, and Dow. Additionally, all of our service programs are designed to be effective, safe, and environmentally responsible and all of the products we use are chosen to that end. When used properly by a licensed professional, they pose practically no risk to our customers or their children or pets.
